Software Engineer Jobs in Pakistan – Position Overview
Virtual University of Pakistan is hiring for 6 positions across two grades — Senior Software Engineer (J-I) and Software Engineer (J-II) — split between its Islamabad and Lahore offices.
One detail applicants should be clear about before applying: these are ad-hoc appointments for a maximum period of six months, offered at market competitive salary. They are not permanent government positions, though they carry the experience value of a public sector university on a CV.

Eligibility Criteria
Senior Software Engineer (J-I)
- 4-year BS degree in Computer Science or IT, or equivalent, in first division from an HEC recognised university
- At least 3 years post-qualification experience designing, developing and deploying complex software systems
- Strong domain knowledge of Learning Management Systems and Content Management Systems
- Experience developing both desktop and internet-based applications
- Strong database management skills
- Fluency in spoken and written English
Software Engineer (J-II)
- 4-year BS degree in Computer Science or IT, or equivalent, in first division from an HEC recognised university
- At least 2 years post-qualification experience in software design, development and deployment
- Good domain knowledge of LMS and CMS platforms plus current programming tools and languages
- Experience with desktop and internet-based applications and strong database skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills will be considered an asset
Important Instructions Before Applying
- The age of superannuation is 60 years
- Applicants already serving in government, semi-government or autonomous bodies must submit a No Objection Certificate from their current employer at or before the interview
- Candidates with a foreign degree must submit an HEC equivalence certificate at the time of interview
- The candidate must sign an affidavit confirming they are not a dual national and will not hold a dual job
- A medical fitness certificate signed by the Medical Superintendent of a civil or government hospital is required on joining
- No TA or DA is admissible for appearing in the test or interview
- Selected candidates may be posted at any Virtual University campus or office anywhere in Pakistan
