A message arrives on WhatsApp. The company sounds real, the salary is good, and all they need is a small registration fee before they can process your file. You are unemployed, the amount is not huge, and the person on the other end is polite.
That is how most job scams in Pakistan work. Not with obvious lies, but with a believable offer and a small ask.
Job hunting already takes enough out of you. Here is how to tell a real opening from a trap, in a few minutes, without paying anyone anything.
The scams doing the rounds right now
The task scam. You are added to a WhatsApp or Telegram group and paid a few hundred rupees for liking videos or rating products. The first payments are real. Then you are asked to deposit your own money to unlock “higher-paying tasks”, and that is the last you see of it.
The registration fee. A company asks for money before you start — registration, processing, a security deposit, uniform, or a training kit. No legitimate employer in Pakistan charges you to be hired.
The fake offer letter. A well-designed PDF arrives, complete with a logo copied off the company’s website. It asks you to confirm by paying a joining fee, or to send your documents to a Gmail address.
The overseas job agent. A visa and a Gulf job are promised for an advance payment. Overseas employment agents must be licensed by the Bureau of Emigration, and that licence can be checked.
The data harvest. No money is asked for at all. They collect your CNIC copy, bank details and photographs for an “onboarding form”, and those are later used to open accounts in your name.

How to check any job in five minutes
Search the company name plus “jobs” and go to their own website. If the vacancy is real, it is almost always on their careers page. If the website does not exist, stop there.
Look at the email domain.hr@company.com.pk is a company. companyhr2026@gmail.com is a person with a free email account.
Call the landline listed on the company website, not the number in the message, and ask whether the position exists.
Search the company name with the word “scam” and see what other job seekers have written.
For an overseas job, check the agent’s licence with the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment before anything else.
If a real employer is hiring, none of these steps will annoy them. If someone gets irritated when you ask basic questions, you have your answer.
What a genuine employer never asks for
Registration or processing fee
Never
Security deposit for equipment or a uniform
Never
Payment for training before joining
Never
Your ATM PIN, OTP or banking password
Never
Money sent to an individual’s personal account
Never
Easypaisa or JazzCash transfer to “confirm” a job
Never
CNIC copy before you are selected
Rare, and only for a role you have already interviewed for
The OTP one deserves a line of its own. No employer, bank or government office will ever need a code sent to your phone. Anyone asking for it is trying to get into your account.
If you have already paid
You are not the first, and you are not stupid. These scams are designed by people who do this full time. Act quickly.
Call your bank immediately and report the transfer as fraud. If it has been minutes rather than days, there is sometimes a chance of a reversal.
Report it to the NCCIA, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency, which took over cybercrime cases from the FIA in 2024. The helpline is 1799, and complaints can be filed online at complaint.nccia.gov.pk. Keep your CNIC handy and take screenshots of everything — the messages, the offer letter, the payment receipt and the account number you sent money to.
Save the evidence before you block anyone. People often block the scammer in anger and lose the proof that would have supported the case.
If you gave out your CNIC or bank details, tell your bank even if no money left your account, and watch your statements for the next few months.
How HireMe.pk handles this
Every job on HireMe.pk is added manually. We check that the company exists, that the vacancy is real, and the Apply button on each listing goes to the employer’s own careers page or official application form, not to a middleman. We do not charge candidates anything, ever.
That said, please stay careful here too. We are a small team, listings come from many sources, and no verification process is perfect. Treat any job the same way wherever you found it: never pay anyone to get hired, and never send your bank details or OTP to someone who contacted you first. If a listing on our site looks wrong, tell us and we will take it down.
Our disclaimer and privacy policy explain what we do and do not take responsibility for.
You can also build a free profile and let employers come to you instead. It takes a few minutes, it costs nothing, and companies search the database directly. A tidy CV helps too.
Is it normal to pay a registration fee for a job in Pakistan?
No. No legitimate employer charges you to apply, to be interviewed, or to join. Any fee request is a scam.
Are WhatsApp job offers always fake?
Not always, since some small companies do contact candidates on WhatsApp. But if the entire process happens on WhatsApp with no call, no office and no company email, treat it as a scam.
How do I check if a company is real?
Find their own website and careers page, call the landline listed there, and search their name alongside the word “scam”. A company with no website and no working number is a red flag on its own.
Where do I report a job scam in Pakistan?
To the NCCIA, on helpline 1799 or at complaint.nccia.gov.pk. Report the transfer to your bank at the same time.
Can I get my money back?
Sometimes, if you contact your bank within minutes of the transfer. After that it becomes difficult, which is why reporting quickly matters more than anything else.
Are jobs on HireMe.pk verified?
Yes, every listing is added manually and links to the employer’s own careers page. Even so, apply carefully and never pay anyone for a job.
