The Firefighter works within AKU’s Safety & Security department and responds to fire and smoke incidents across the campus and its secondary hospitals. The role combines emergency response with a strong preventive element, including routine equipment inspections, safety rounds and fire safety training for hospital staff.

Candidates who hold a valid HTV driving licence may also be deputed as a fire engine driver, which adds vehicle operation and maintenance duties to the role.

Key Responsibilities

These Firefighter jobs in Karachi carry the following day-to-day duties:

• Tackle fire incidents with the assistance of firefighting equipment using appropriate media in the shortest possible time
• Conduct or assist in conducting fire safety training for hospital staff
• Conduct safety rounds in construction areas and report unsafe practices
• Respond to all fire and smoke incident calls received on 1600, through the fire panel or verbally
• Use pertinent media on fire for effective extinguishment and assist the Emergency Response Team in evacuation
• Log every firefighter movement, receipt and issuance of fire extinguishers, equipment and tools, and all occurrences in the fire occurrence book
• Carry out monthly inspections according to the Inspection Schedule of Fire Fighting Equipment, fire panels and exits
• Assist in conducting fire drills, fire practices and demonstrations
• Perform stand-by duty on demand through Hot Work Permits
• Support the supervisor, coordinator or assistant manager in training and inspection of firefighting equipment at collection points, IMSs and all secondary hospitals
• Operate the fire tender in case of deputation as a fire engine driver
• Check all firefighting equipment, stickers and exits as per procedure and complete inspection checklists for record
• Check the fire engine pump and accessories, and maintain lubricating oil, fuel, water level, tyre pressure and foam level when deputed as a fire engine driver
• Clean and fill fire buckets as per schedule

Requirements and Eligibility

• Matric qualification
• Fireman course and leading fireman course certificates from Civil Defence Pakistan
• First aid course certificate from a reputable organisation (preferred)

• Familiarity with all types of portable and trolley mounted fire extinguishers

• Familiarity with evacuation techniques and the ability to read fire and evacuation plans
• Ability to operate a fire tender in case of deputation as a fire engine driver
• Ability to read, write and speak Urdu well
