Website Aga Khan University Hospital
Trainee jobs in Karachi for fresh graduates are open at Aga Khan University Hospital through the Trainee Technologist Program 2027. This is a paid one-year training programme in Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, and every selected trainee receives a monthly stipend for the full duration of the training. Applications close on 13 September 2026.

Monthly Stipend for Every Trainee
Unlike most unpaid internships offered to fresh graduates in Pakistan, this programme pays. A monthly stipend is given to all onboard trainees throughout the one-year training, and on successful completion each trainee receives a training certificate from Aga Khan University Hospital.
For a fresh graduate, that combination matters: paid experience, a recognised certificate, and a full year inside the largest CAP-accredited laboratory network in Pakistan.
Who Can Apply – Built for Fresh Graduates
This intake is designed specifically for recent graduates. The eligibility rules make that clear:
- A 4-year BS in Medical Laboratory Technology or Medical Laboratory Science (MLT/MLS); Master’s preferred
- Minimum First Division or CGPA 3.0 out of 4.0, or equivalent
- Degree must have been awarded between 2024 and 2026
- Willingness to work rotating shifts covering morning, evening and night
- Willingness to be transferred to any section, region or location as per service needs
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
That 2024–2026 graduation window is the key filter. Candidates who graduated earlier are not eligible, which means fresh graduates are competing only against other fresh graduates rather than against experienced technologists.
Read This Before You Apply
This vacancy has a two-step application that catches many candidates out. Clicking Apply Online on the AKU portal is only half the process. You must also complete and submit a separate online application form linked inside the official advertisement. AKU states plainly that failure to submit that form results in rejection of the application, no matter how strong the candidate is.
For queries about the programme, AKU has provided a dedicated email address: trainee.technologist@aku.edu
What the Training Covers
The one-year programme combines classroom lectures with bench-side training across seven areas:
- Transfusion Medicine
- Hematology
- Point of Care Testing (POCT)
- Clinical Chemistry
- Clinical Microbiology
- Histopathology
- Molecular Pathology
Rotations take place at the Stadium Road Campus in Karachi and at outreach laboratories across Pakistan, so trainees see both tertiary-level and field laboratory work rather than one setting.
Selection Process
- Online MCQ-based assessment
- Interview for shortlisted candidates only
- Document verification and reference checks
Incomplete applications or falsified documents at any stage may result in disqualification.
Why This Beats Most Trainee Openings in Karachi
Fresh graduates searching for trainee jobs in Karachi usually find one of two things: unpaid internships, or roles that quietly require two years of experience. This programme is neither. It pays a stipend, it is restricted to recent graduates by design, and it sits inside a department that runs a tertiary lab, more than 300 specimen collection units and 13 STAT labs nationwide.
About the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine
Aga Khan University was chartered in 1983 as Pakistan’s first private international university. Its affiliated hospital, AKUH, was the first hospital in Pakistan awarded Joint Commission International Accreditation.
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine holds College of American Pathologists accreditation and is organised into five major sections — Chemical Pathology, Blood Transfusion, Histopathology, Microbiology and Molecular Pathology. Each section is academically driven and engaged in research alongside undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, which is why the trainee programme carries real teaching weight rather than being routine lab labour.
