Website Aga Khan University Hospital
Senior Technologist jobs in Karachi are open at Aga Khan University Hospital in the Hematology section of the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine. This is a senior bench role that carries an unusual dual demand: alongside performing complex clinical tests independently, the post holder is expected to teach and supervise junior staff, students and trainees, and to co-sign laboratory reports.

Senior Technologist Jobs in Karachi – Role Overview
The Senior Technologist sits between routine bench work and laboratory supervision. Daily duties include running complex clinical tests independently so final reports are prepared on time, and taking responsibility for the accuracy of what leaves the section.
The supervisory element is written into the role rather than added informally. The post holder inspects the work of junior staff against the laboratory quality manual, assists the supervisor in implementing safety standards from the Laboratory Safety Manual, and co-signs reports including negative results.
Key Responsibilities
Senior Technologist jobs in Karachi at AKU involve the following duties:
- Perform complex clinical tests independently according to the procedures manual on a daily basis to ensure timely preparation of final reports
- Assist in teaching and training junior staff, students and trainees according to guidelines provided as and when required
- Follow and assist the supervisor in implementing safety standards according to the Laboratory Safety Manual on a daily basis
- Ensure through visual inspection that junior staff carry out their activities as per the laboratory quality manual
- Process and co-sign reports, including negative reports, of laboratory tests
- Follow safety standards in accordance with the safety manual to maintain a safe working environment
Requirements and Eligibility
- BS or MSc in Biological Sciences
- Three to four years of experience as a Technologist at AKU, or six to seven years of relevant experience at a hospital or laboratory including two to three years of administrative experience
- Thorough knowledge of laboratory testing procedures
- Knowledge of the latest developments in the medical technology field
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Willingness to work in shifts
Comprehensive employment reference checks will be conducted.
Two Routes into This Role
The experience requirement is worth reading carefully, because it opens two separate doors. Existing AKU technologists qualify after three to four years. Candidates from outside AKU need six to seven years at a hospital or laboratory, and crucially, two to three of those years must include administrative experience.
That administrative clause is the part most external applicants overlook. Pure bench experience, however long, will not satisfy it on its own. Anyone applying from outside should make supervisory or administrative duties explicit on their CV rather than leaving them implied.
Where This Sits on the Career Ladder
This is the senior end of the laboratory technologist path at AKU. At the other end, the hospital also runs an entry-level route: the Trainee Technologist Program for fresh graduates, which is a paid one-year training programme with a monthly stipend. Candidates who do not yet meet the senior requirements may want to look at that instead.
