The Assistant Manager (Electrical) is responsible for the smooth operation of the HT and LT network across all AKU outreach facilities. That covers planned, reactive, regular and emergency maintenance against agreed response times and planned schedules.

The facilities in scope include phlebotomy centres, stat labs, medical centres, pharmacies, secondary hospitals, Karimabad IED, Gilgit and Chitral facilities, Clifton Medical Services, the call centre and Pead’s offices. Work also involves coordinating directly with the local electricity provider’s network team.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Engineer jobs in Karachi at AKU carry the following duties:

• Manage and coordinate safe, efficient repairs and maintenance of all outreach facilities in compliance with university policies and standards
• Supervise inspections of all maintenance tasks and programmes to ensure uninterrupted electrical operation, with appropriate documentation
• Communicate with staff at all levels including subordinates, consultants, contractors and clinical or healthcare staff
• Carry out technical appraisal of new equipment
• Maintain compliance with JCIA, ISO 9001, ISO 2015 and SafeCare standards
• Prepare maintenance work programmes (PPM) and communicate planned work to relevant stakeholders
• Prepare cost estimates and monitor and control costs to complete works within budget
• Handle elevator maintenance, operation and associated equipment issues
• Develop annual operational goals for the department in line with divisional strategy
• Manage financial obligations for outreach maintenance projects and oversee regional expenses
• Ensure proper punch listing of ongoing outreach facility tasks
• Prepare technical and financial comparative statements in compliance with outsourcing policy
• Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) processes
• Coordinate capacity building for outreach staff and give timely feedback for team efficiency
• Orient new employees and run continuing education on electrical repair and maintenance, ensuring safe practice
• Manage inventory of spares and consumables effectively
• Assist the Senior Manager C&G & Outreach in budgeting, planning and expense monitoring
• Submit monthly reports to the Senior Manager on the condition of all outreach facilities and work in progress
• Respond to emergency situations using established procedures and protocols

Eligibility Criteria

• B.E. Electrical from a government recognised institute
• 7–10 years of experience related to the specified duties and responsibilities
• Excellent knowledge of electrical maintenance and projects; HT/LT distribution system knowledge counts as an additional advantage
• Proficient computer knowledge
• Effective communication skills in English
• Ability to supervise and train employees, including organising, prioritising and scheduling work assignments
• Ability to cope with stress
• Team leadership qualities to independently lead a multidisciplinary technical team
• Ability to take initiative, analyse and solve problems
• Ability to develop and maintain record keeping systems and procedures
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints
